Do you want to have the worst experience at Epic Universe? No.
Didn’t think so.
We’ve been to Epic Universe a lot lately and we’ve noticed something: people are making the same mistakes over and over again. Most of them are simple, but they can absolutely wreck your day if you’re not prepared.
We’ve made a few of these mistakes ourselves (ouch), and trust us, once you step into this brand-new park, it’s a different world. So let’s dive into the 10 mistakes to avoid at Epic Universe so you can spend less time stressing and more time soaring through the stars.
Mistake #1 - Treating Epic Universe Like the Other Parks
Epic Universe isn’t next door to Universal Studios Florida or Islands of Adventure. It’s about a 15-minute shuttle ride away. That means if you’re staying at one of the “legacy” hotels like Hard Rock, Cabana Bay or DockSide, plan for travel time.
And here’s the kicker: your Express Pass from signature hotels doesn’t work at Epic Universe. You’ll need a separate Epic-specific Express Pass if you want to skip lines here.
“Epic is completely different than Islands or Studios, it’s its own little hub.” – Fudge Factor
Mistake #2 - Wearing the Wrong Shoes
Epic Universe is massive. Bigger than Islands and Studios combined. Expect 15,000–20,000 steps easily.
Wear comfortable shoes. And if you are planning to bust out those new kicks, be sure to break them in ahead of time. Between stairs, long queues, and walkways, your feet will thank you later.
Mistake #3 - Underestimating the Florida Sun
By 2 PM, you’ll see guests clinging to every scrap of shade like it’s gold. Why? Because there’s not much of it yet... the trees at Epic are still growing. Bring sunscreen, a cooling towel, a personal fan, and reapply sunscreen often. Trust us, it’s worth it.
“It’s going to be hotter than a blister bug in a pepper patch.” – Fudge Factor
Bonus Tip: If you’re staying at one of the nearby hotels like Helios Grand, take a mid-day break. Shower, cool off, rest, and come back for the evening magic.
Mistake #4 - Ignoring the Rain Forecast
Welcome to Central Florida. It rains. A lot. Bring an umbrella (bonus points if it doubles as shade). Ponchos work, but they’re not great in the heat.
“You can expect rain almost every day during the summer. Usually short… but always there.” – Fudge Factor
When the skies open up, use that time to eat, catch a show, or explore indoor attractions. A little planning goes a long way in keeping your day on track.
Mistake #5 - Leaving Before Dark
This one breaks our hearts.
Epic Universe at night is pure magic. The lights, the atmosphere, it’s like stepping into another reality.
“Epic Universe is a night park, 100%. It’s the most gorgeous after dark.” – Fudge Factor
Wait times also drop dramatically in the evening. Don’t tap out early. Stay and enjoy the show.
Mistake #6 - Ignoring the Universal App
If you don’t have the Universal Orlando app, you’re doing Epic wrong.
The app handles mobile food orders, ride times, show schedules, Power-Up Bands, wand games, and more.
Pro Move: Use the app to plan your meals, check real-time updates, and book reservations while you’re in line. Efficiency is everything here.
Mistake #7 - Letting Your Phone Die
“I walk around with my phone in my bag and a wire going to my power bank, all day.” – Fudge Factor
Your phone is your map, your meal planner, your ride timer, and your ticket. Bring a power bank or two. The park isn’t filled with outlets, and you don’t want to be stuck charging in a restroom while everyone else is riding Stardust Racers.
Mistake #8 - Eating at Peak Meal Times
Here’s the deal: if you eat between noon and 2 PM or 5 and 7 PM, you’re going to wait. A long time.
We once waited almost two hours for food during peak time. Never again.
Instead, eat early or late, and enjoy shorter lines while everyone else is eating. Win-win.
Mistake #9 - Trying to Do It All in One Day
We get it... you want to experience everything. But Epic Universe is massive.
Even with Express Pass, it’s tough to do it all in a single day. Two days is ideal. It’s actually cheaper than buying a one-day ticket plus Express Pass, and it gives you time to relax and explore.
“Things happen... rides close, weather changes. Two days gives you freedom.” – Fudge Factor
Mistake #10 - Going in Without a Game Plan
This is the ultimate rookie mistake.
“It’s like going into battle with Bowser without any shells. Not gonna go well.” – Fudge Factor
Have a strategy. Know your must-do rides, backup plans, and meal options. A little pre-planning means way less stress and more fun once you’re in the park.
Pro Tip: For Battle of the Ministry, get in line about an hour before park close. You’ll still get to ride even if the posted wait time is long and it’s a perfect finale.
Final Thoughts
Epic Universe is unlike anything Universal has ever built and it rewards those who plan ahead. Whether it’s bringing the right shoes, dodging the heat, or using the Universal app like a pro, every little tip adds up to a better day.
